2- or 3-Day Workshop

Mark’s informative and entertaining daily demos give an in-depth look at how pastels can create atmosphere, texture, mystery and drama. Participants get multiple one-on-one sessions with Mark. This version of the workshop includes the most individual painting time!

One Day Workshop

Want to get right down to it? The one-day workshop starts with a bang and never lets up! After an action-packed demo, Mark will meet with individual participants to walk through their unique challenges as they work on their own personal paintings.

Demo

Mark takes a painting from start to finish, describing each aspect of it as he goes: surface choice, block-in, underpainting, color harmony, and the variety of techniques that he’s found useful over the years. As he paints, Mark will field questions from the audience and share the inspiration and the story behind the image!

What participants are saying:

“Listening to Mark talk about his painting process as he was painting was very interesting and informative. He spoke about his intention, as to what he wanted to emphasize and what he planned to leave out. He demonstrated and spoke about the techniques he was using in applying his pastels that would convey in his painting the emotion he felt when he was at the site and took the photo.”

Joyce

During the demos, Mark describes the concept and execution of each stage of the painting, explaining his choices of often-unorthodox tools and processes as he goes. Workshops include one-on-one time in which Mark engages with individual participants working on the project of their choice.

The demos were off the charts.

Nancy

Amazing demos.

Liz

Very informative…contagious enthusiasm.

Gihan

Unlike a chef who shares his recipe but leaves out his secret ingredient, Mark holds nothing back...During this workshop I had success trying some of those techniques in my own paintings.

Joyce

It was very helpful to hear Mark discuss all the decisions he was making about color, value, form, detail, etc. as he painted….also his evaluations as to what was or wasn’t working in the painting.”

Julie

“I have taken many workshops and so far this is my all time fave!”
